Favorite Asylum Horrors?
I'm just really bad at watching horror movies. I'm just kind of bad at scary things in general.
I read a creepypasta once. Still kind of scared about it sometimes.
Aaaaaaanyway, does anyone else know of some pretty decent asylum-based horror films?
My personal favorite is probably Grave Encounters, which is on Netflix along with its interesting but slightly unimpressive sequel.
It's about ghost hunters who are in the middle of filming their show at an asylum. It's one of those found-footage type deals, but it actually kind of pulls together nicely in the aspect that it does feel like a familiar ghost hunter show, specifically Ghost Adventures.
It starts off pretty good, though some of the scares are completely foreseeable. I liked it, though, since I did really think some parts were definitely filled with the spooks, which isn't hard to do for me, but still. The ending was okay, but probably could have been better.
The rest of the story is better explained in the sequel, which is really the only reason to watch that one if you are just plain confused at the end and wanted answers like I did.

The Butterfly Effect (Not based in an asylum but has a part)
Gothika
Secret Window (Also not an asylum but a character that suffers from dissociative identity disorder)

Session 9!!!
you can watch it online here!!!
But I also second Gothika and Butterfly Effect. Secret Window is probably the only movie I can tolerate Johnny Depp in besides Edward Scissorhands. XD

Session 9 is also on Netflix owo
And technically Mirrors involves an Asylum/Hospital. Parts of that movie just... /shivers
But don't watch the second one ever, it was BAD.

I heard about Session 9 on Netflix, but I didn't know if it would be any good to watch. I'll probably watch it soon, since Netflix I have on my phone.
I used to really love Butterfly Effect, then I watched it on TV a couple years back and just wasn't really into it there, mostly because, like Kill Bill, it's pretty useless to watch on TV. =^=
I probably should re-watch it eventually.

Shutter Island is fucking good y'all need to watch that asap
Also INFECTION FFS I watched that like ages ago and for the life of me couldn't remember what it was called. It's an Asian Horror film so if you want more spook than like... meaningful movie cheese watch it.

I heard bad things about Shutter Island, and also some spoilers, though I can't remember if they were for the actual movie.

AW MAN INFECTION.
And there's a Thai movie called Sick Nurses. It's more of a ghost movie than an asylum, but it's set in a hospital anyway and it's REALLY good, like... two plot twists that I didn't see coming, and I'm AWESOME at figuring out plot twists.

Netflix isn't loading on my internet right now, but of what I have seen of Session 9, about the first 10 minutes or so, the main problem with this movie is the lack of the phrase, "We'll do this asbestos we can."
Because I have a MIGHTY NEED to hear this pun.

Yes. Yes, that might be the best thing ever. In fact, I think EVERY movie would benefit from having that pun.

It doesn't even have to be well placed, just placed somewhere. None of the main actors have to say it, it could just be some dude in the back.
I have never wanted to be a director more in my life.
Just for this reason.
