Role Play Guide Empty Role Play Guide

Welcome to the Hill of Acropolis. Please read the 'Setting', 'Roles' and 'Rules' topics under the 'Information' section of the forum before filling out an application.

What is Role Play?
    • Role Play (RP) is a creative social activity in which players assume roles of fictional characters and interact with one another. There are specific rules, character guidelines, and storyline backgrounds to consider.
In Character (IC) vs. Out Of Character (OOC)
    • In Character (IC) describes the state of acting through the eyes, ears, mouth, mind and body of your fictional character. Basically all physical and mental actions and conversations would be based as though you really are your character. All IC posts should be done in the Role Play sections of the forum.
    • Out of Character (OOC) describes responses and interactions with others as your real self in out-of-story context. Please try to keep OOC out of the Role Play threads. If you need to break character temporarily, you may do so by surrounding your text ((in brackets)).

Fair Play
    • Take your turn with a single post in order when multiple players are involved. This allows for a fair chance to respond to everything and everyone.
   • When entering a thread it's good to read up on previous posts so that you have a clear understanding of what your character is about to walk into and the player order.
    • If your character is interacting physically with another, your actions must be attempts, or state what you are trying to do to the other player. This gives the other player flexibility and chances to accept or deflect. You should not dodge every single attempt thrown at you… keeping it fair also keeps it fun.
    • Powergaming, Metagaming, God Modding, etc. is not allowed. Powergaming is when you claim an action on another character without giving a fair change for a reaction (ie: Admin jumped on the back of the patient and struck him hard in the skull, rendering him unconscious). Metagaming is when a player uses knowledge their IC character does not actually know. For example, unless you have obtained charts, spoken IC, etc. with another character, you probably do not know their name/history/life details.

Combat
    • It is important to know your character’s abilities based on realism. Ie: they are trained in a certain style of fighting, then it’s probably best you do a little OOC research to help you project that properly in your posts. Skills also do not mean you automatically win. The environment, health, mental state, etc. are all factors in combat. Keep in mind the physical build of your character vs. your partner(s) as well. If you're only five feet tall and weigh in at just under a hundred pounds, there is likely no way you're going to flatten a six foot, three hundred pound sumo wrestler with ease.
    • Everyday objects and weapons can easily be used in offense and defense within RP; just remember to base its existence on realistic requirements. The key thing to remember is how your character is going to wield it, taking in account it’s weight, size and its possible use.
